Integration?
During my first years on the ‘path of the plants’, I noticed the complete lack of attention for the ‘life after the ceremony’ phase. The integration or ‘after the ecstasy the laundry’ part of the experience.
The coming back home after a difficult, confusing, or impactful Plant Medicine ceremony that has turned you inside out in every way imaginable.
And I started further diving into the reasons why this ‘integration blind spot’ existed. A blind spot I noticed in the Plant Medicine community at large.
Safe container
I’ve been trained as a Counsellor and further specialized in Plant Medicine preparation and after-care (‘integration’) in my thirties, but I’ve also been educated as a (Cultural and Political) Anthropologist after spending some years at University in my twenties.
And what I soon realized is that ‘we’ in the West live isolated lives and lack the genuine ‘togetherness’ that defines a traditional community. A safe container where there is attention for your experiences, emotions, existential doubts and worries coming out of an altered state of consciousness. A trusted space where you feel welcomed, validated and seen.
Something that is embedded in the original fabric of the many indigenous communities around the world and the traditional wisdom keepers that are working closely together with Plant Medicine like Ayahuasca, Psilocybin, San Pedro, or Peyote (to name a few).
Positive impact
And…I saw this ‘blind spot theory’ coming to life again every time I started to work with clients.
Because, the positive impact that working with these sacred Plant Teachers can have is enormous, but I noticed that most of my clients who came back from psychedelic ceremonies and retreats experienced difficulties successfully integrating these experiences into their everyday lives.
There and then, I received the confirmation to focus my work as a Counsellor exclusively on Plant Medicine Preparation and Integration support.
Maximize benefits
For the past few years, I have been successfully supporting many clients from all over the world. Also embedding the extensive ‘hands-on’ experience of my own plant medicine journey that started 150 ceremonies ago.
And one of my central messages is that, as a member of Western society, it’s very common to require an extra hand (or a set of eyes and ears for that matter) to support you in filling up the integration ‘blind spot’ that keeps many of us from maximizing the benefits of working with these powerful and ancient entheogens.
You don’t have to do this alone.
