Captain of your Own Ship

One of the important elements that I’ve learned over the years is not to actively interfere in other people’s processes when under the influence of mind-altering substances (Ayahuasca, Psilocybin, or San Pedro, to name a few).
Your own time space and pace
For the past few years, I have also been offering my support as a Counsellor and psychedelic after-care (‘or: ’integration’) specialist during group ceremonies and this experience has shown me, time and time again, how important it is to respect a person’s own time, space and pace.
I have a trauma-informed professional background and my Plant Medicine preparation and integration sessions center on somatic (‘body-focused’) work.
What this means is that we will focus less on rationally explaining and understanding your ceremony experiences with the mind, but we will shift to decoding what your body, intuition and subconscious are communicating to you (via emotions, physical sensations, thoughts, or messages through mental images or visions).
Captain of your own ship
During the ceremony weekends that I join as part of the support team, I always share this central principle in my way of working with clients:
‘You are always, always, always, the captain of your own ship’.
Three central principles
And time and time again, I see the importance of these 3 principles confirmed:
1: A participant who doesn’t feel safe will not open up and will not fully benefit from working with Plant Medicine.
2: Don’t assume, always ask before you think a participant needs something.
3: Always make eye contact and never, never, never touch a person before checking in with them first.
Safe container
Unfortunately, not all ceremony settings seem to respect these (as far as I’m concerned) key principles yet, because not all clients who knock on my door report having a positive ceremony experience.
If this is you (or this happened to a loved one), please know that you are more than welcome to contact me and I will offer a safe container for your experiences.
This is what my Plant Medicine after-care support also entails.
Free mini session
Curious how I can support you? I offer a free online mini-session of 30-minutes.
Focused on supporting you to align yourself either going in, or coming out of a Plant Medicine ceremony or psychedelic retreat
I will assemble three personalized tips that you can bring to life that same day.
